•The Business Analyst will report into the Senior Product Manager who leads the product management and design teams for Mendeley. The initial assignment is expected to be working across Reference Management and Social projects and improving teams’ ability to release software increments frequently and predictably.
•This will involve guiding the team on how to groom, manage and prioritize the user story backlogs and how to vertically slice ‘thin’ stories in line with INVEST principles.
•To succeed at the role you need to bring energy, enthusiasm as well as the ability to learn quickly and apply your skills on the ground in order to have a measurable impact on quality and delivery.
•There is the potential for the role to transition into a product management position with agile product owner responsibilities in due course.
The role is expected to take a lead in the following areas
•Delivery of user stories, acceptance criteria and other measurement criteria against which the product’s quality, value, and performance can be evaluated;
•Build collaborative, professional, and successful relationships with all product and delivery teams, UX and wider area representatives;
•Production of research summaries, competitor review and analysis, and other papers and presentations of data which contribute to the definition and evaluation of products
In addition the Business Analyst should be able to clearly demonstrate key skills and abilities in the following areas:
•Collect, understand, and communicate the business requirements for products, projects, and features, translating these into user stories and acceptance criteria.
•Assist the product owner in defining the product and feature requirements.
•Contribute to the shape, direction, and execution of the goals of the various product theme areas within Mendeley
•Elicit, analyse and document processes to define existing workflows or model new workflows that support the product definition and how we capture and elicit requirements
•Helping to shape and define team practices and processes to continually improve agile ways of working.
•Strong business analysis experience in an agile software delivery environment, including designing and running workshops.
•Strong understanding and experience of business analysis skills, techniques, and practices including writing user stories, acceptance tests and documenting technical requirements.
•Experience communicating concepts and ideas to stakeholders at all levels within organisations, including oral and written presentations, proposals and reports.
•Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams delivering software projects within a variety of methodologies (particularly Agile, Scrum and Kanban)
•Proven ability to influence decision-making at all levels within an organization, and in a variety of contexts
•Ability to simplify complex problems into component parts and evaluate systematically
•Evidence of problem solving and providing creative solutions.
•Demonstrates a good working knowledge/high level understanding and appreciation of Mendeley’s service offerings and target markets
•A strong interest in academic digital products, particularly those that relate to document/library management, citation management or reading and annotations tools
•Any experience of defining and implementing social network features
•Experience in and knowledge of working with native application development on desktop PC or mobile devices
•Ideally a development background and solid understanding of front and back-end programming fundamentals
•Experience in working with Behavioural or Test Driven development teams
