The Project
ScienceDirect is the world’s leading collection of science information on the web and Elsevier’s flagship product. A new project has just been kicked off to replace the web site from the ground up with a brand new, cutting edge technology platform that is fast and reliable and enables continuous delivery so the product team can test new ideas, be more innovative and respond more quickly to rapidly changing customer needs. This exciting new project will be delivered by building new agile teams in London, so this is an opportunity to be part of a new and fast-growing cross-functional development group from the very beginning and a chance to help shape the culture and the way the teams work.

The Role
We are seeking talented and self-motivated Senior Business Analyst with experience of working in cross-functional product development environments. You will be joining a new and fast-growing agile team in our City of London offices to help deliver a high volume, high availability and high performance web site. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in changing the way that web products are delivered within the company, devising and implementing a modern approach to software engineering and product development that enables continuous delivery and releases features on-demand. You will be part of a cross-functional group using agile management and engineering practices.

Key Tasks
• Work with product owners, project managers and business stakeholders to understand the commercial goals and drivers, in order to create a shared vision for meeting business needs.
• Elicit requirements and decompose complex problems into coherent features, products and projects.
• Produce any necessary documentation, for example acceptance criteria on stories, logging defects and knowledge share documentation
• Work closely with developers, QA’s and user experience designers to ensure that user stories are clear, concise and complete.
• Liaise closely with product owners on a daily basis to represent their business requirements.
• Mentor and up-skill other members of the team.
• Help to guide the overall development process in order to improve quality and flow of work

Skills / Experience
• Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Experience of working successfully with development teams to deliver bespoke software.
• A positive approach with an emphasis on collaboration and good execution.
• Ability to get buy-in and resolve conflicts when working with business stakeholders.
• Deep knowledge and experience of agile, iterative and incremental software delivery methodologies.
• In-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle.
• Excellent oral and written and communication skills.
