Junior Software Engineer

The Company

Our client is a proven leader in the design, build and management of smart transaction systems. They are looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join their software development team in the head office in Chippenham.

About The Team

Utilising the latest Java, Web and secure transaction technologies, their Development Teams are responsible for delivering the systems that underpin smart transactions systems in travel, retail and leisure. You will be working in a high performance, agile environment, collaborating with expert colleagues from systems architecture, software testing, usability and project management.

The team is currently working with:

Java EE (JDK 5, 6, 7) | EJB3 | JSF | JPA | Eclipse | NetBeans | Web Services | Spring | Oracle | SQL | Ant | Maven | Hudson |Jenkins | Selenium | JMeter | Linux and more

Responsibilities

You will primarily be involved in development of new features, enhancements to existing functionality, defect investigation/resolution and design documentation. An eye for detail and focus on quality is required, using a test driven approach incorporating unit and integration testing of code.

Summary Skills and Experience required

Experience of Java development (Java 1.5 or later preferred)

Object-oriented software design and design patterns

Development Environment – Eclipse or NetBeans

Experience of SQL

Knowledge of source control systems (CVS, SVN)

Unit testing

Creation of software designs and technical documentation

Show an awareness and understanding of software design, development and lifecycles

Other desirables

Knowledge of enterprise Java development (JavaEE5, EJB3 and JPA)

Servlets, HTML, XML, SOAP & other web technologies

Knowledge of build tools ( e.g. Ant, Maven)

Knowledge of integration/performance test tools and frameworks

Salary and benefits

£18,000 – £23,000 p.a.
