Our Client – Our client is a government department responsible for the registration of land and property in England and Wales. They are a successful, high performing, innovative organisation. Information Systems – They are the in house information technology division for our client, whose main function is to provide the information systems and support needed to deliver the whole range of land information systems for their customers.
The Job – As a member of the Server Provisioning Team, the successful Linux System Administrator will contribute to the development and support of our client Linux based infrastructure, across various hardware platforms. You will be given the opportunity to enforce good practice and ensure full implementation of corporate policies and processes.
The main duties of the Linux System Administrator will include guided tasks to build, maintain and support Linux servers in a virtualised hardware environment, assisting with the installation and support of Linux based middleware and application software, and assisting in the monitoring and analysis of the availability and performance of the Linux based IT infrastructure and delivered IT services. The Linux System Administrator will help analyse and resolve technical problems, ensuring a customer focused approach to service management is taken, in accordance with ITIL principles.
The successful Linux System Administrator must have knowledge and some experience of both basic Unix system administration processes, and at least hardware virtualisation technology, together with knowledge of Open Source technologies and software solutions. The successful Linux System Administrator will have already worked for a significant period in an IT Functional Specialism post, including within the last 2 years, or be able to demonstrate aptitude for such a post via a successful B-SYS aptitude test result (where an opportunity to take the test will be made available).
It is desirable, but by no means vital, for the Linux System Administrator to have working experience of Linux system administration, and mid-range or distributed IT environments.
This is a permanent position, available on a full-time, part-time or job share basis. A minimum of 22 hours a week is required.
