About the role
The three-year Systems Simplification Programme (SSP) is easily the most ambitious investment programme of its kind that we’ve ever undertaken. It will completely transform how we work, how we do business and, most importantly, how we engage with our customers. The Supporter Loyalty aspect of the programme will implement a supporter data warehouse and a campaign management tool, so, for the first time, we’ll have information on all supporters ‘ members, visitors, volunteers etc. This will give us a significantly better understanding of supporters’ interests and behaviours which we can put at the forefront of our strategies to deliver a more personalised, effective offering.
As Head of Data Science, you’ll drive the National Trust forward through the delivery of optimised supporter insights which will enable us to better understand visitors’ behaviours and align our strategies accordingly. This is a key role within the organisation and an impactful opportunity to own, shape and direct our newly created Data Science function. We want you to take the lead on supporter analytics and inspire the use of behavioural data at the Trust. From our holiday cottages guests and weekend break lovers to our regular dog walkers and ramblers, you’ll work closely with the Data Management team to develop a clear understanding of supporters and establish a strategy that makes best use of supporter-behavioural insights and reports. You’ll design and direct analytical techniques, processes, products and best practice which provide your team of Data Scientists with the most effective tools to work with. Leading a culture of optimisation, you’ll continuously evaluate strategic performance, championing cross-selling opportunities. Collaboration will be crucial in this role: you’ll act as a critical friend and strategic advisor to senior stakeholders and build excellent relationships with colleagues across the organisation, ensuring that insight is being acted upon.
Coming to us from a similar role, you’ll bring a wealth of senior-level experience in customer or loyalty analytics and a strong track record of using your insight and understanding to deliver strategic business benefits. With a Maths, Statistics or other relevant degree, you’ve an up-to-the-minute understanding of MS Access, MS Excel, SQL (or similar) and other common digital data analytical, data mining and predictive modelling tools and techniques. You think strategically and utilise your insight to exploit beneficial opportunities and drive business results. You thrive on challenge and manage both your own workload and your team’s effectively, even during the busiest and most demanding times. Credible, influential with excellent communication skills, you’ll be confident building excellent relationships with a wide variety of people and multidisciplinary teams across the organisation ‘ from property managers to senior stakeholders. And, of course, you’ll be just as passionate as we are about this exciting chapter ahead.
Do great things for us and we’ll do great things for you and your career. We’ll give you all the training, support and continued professional development you need, and we appreciate that work/life balance is important. You can also look forward to free admission to all our incredible places, and a helpful 20% off at our shops, cafes and restaurants. But they’re just the benefits we can tell you about here.
